Welcome back childhood! I loved Voltron as a child, and now, Netflix is bringing it back, and it looks perfect. The best part about this, is that it has a June 10th release date, which means that you will be able to binge-watch the thirteen episode first season early this summer. Netflix has released the first trailer for the upcoming animation, and although there isn’t much to see, what they give you is enough. Check out the teaser trailer below:
Netflix and Dreamworks Animation Studio are teaming up for the Voltron reboot, titled, Voltron: Legendary Defender. This will continue Netflix’s dedication to bringing back nostalgic television. There is no telling where they will go next. Sorry kids, this isn’t going to be Voltron Defender of Near Universe, there will be no vehicles here. Time to bring on the lions!
The show will follows five young heroes who are tasked with being the last line of defense for the planet Arus (and other planets) against the evil King Zarkon. Every hero is given their own robot lion that will combine (when needed) to become Voltron.
The teaser is a little light on footage, but the little that is there is pure gold. The animation team seems to have taken the artistic style of Legend of Korra and Avatar. YouTube user James Chua has also done a quick edit tot he new teaser and set it to the old theme, which makes me even more excited for this cartoon. you can see that below:
I have to admit, if they chose not to use the old theme song, I will be pretty disappointed. It was such an epic 1980’s fanfare. It looks as though I will be digging my Voltron toys out of the attic now. Hopefully, all the pieces are still there. Below are a few more stills, courtesy of Netflix:
