Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Live Action Movie Looks Perfect

Beauty and the Beast

Disney has finally released footage from their live-action, Emma Watson led movie, Beauty and the Beast. There really isn’t much to the trailer, being that this is just a teaser, but what is here feels great. You are instantly enchanted by a haunting piano melody that reminds you of the first time you saw the animated Beauty and the Beast.

You get brief glimpses at familiar sets, and then hear the voices of Cogsworth (Ian McKellan) and Lumiere (Ewan McGregor). McKellen sounds great as Cogsworth, although him saying, “I can see it’s a girl, you fool!” reminds me too much of his “fly you fools” line in The Lord of the Rings. Ewan McGregor sounds convincing enough as Lumiere, the enchanted candelabra. Could Disney be doing a shot-for-shot recreation of their timeless tale, or are they going to stay from their original interpretation? Check out the trailer below, and prepare to have your nostalgia bone tickled:

The live-action Beauty and the Beast looks to follow a lot of the recipe that the animated film had, including the cherished songs. Emma Watson confirmed that she sang three songs in the movie, and that they are actually new songs penned by lyricist Allan Menken. During the interview Watson also said that the movie will go be deeper than the animated film, because it will address and answer things that were just hinted at in the animated film.

Speaking of co-star Emma Watson, Luke Evans (Gaston), told MTV:

She epitomizes what Belle should be in the 21st century to young girls; she’s a strong woman. We all know Emma as Emma, a strong woman, she has a voice, she uses it very effectively and I admire her for that. She’s brought some of that to Belle. She’s not just a Disney princess, she’s more than a Disney princess, and she has a beautiful sensitive side to her. She’s quite delicate to look at, but she’s not at all. She’s a really strong, feisty woman and we have some fantastic scenes in the film.

What do you think of the Beauty and the Beast trailer? Is Disney going too far remaking all of their cherished animated films live-action?
