Alien: Covenant is Ridley Scott’s upcoming sequel to Prometheus, a film that was not widely accepted by fans of the franchise. While Prometheus was a bit off the deep end, Scott has confirmed that the sequels will lead up to the events of the first Alien movie.
Scott recently released an image from the set of the film that shows Katherine Waterston as Daniels, hiding from what we can only assume is an alien. The ship looks like it is in dire shape and Waterston looks like she is in some trouble. You can see the image above. The rest of the cast includes Danny McBride, Michael Fassbender (as an android head?), Jussie Smollett, and Billy Crudup.
Earlier reports from Michael Fassbender, show that the film’s sets have a “battered” look, as if they are used future technology. This would definitely harken back to the way that the ship’s appeared in the Alien films. We also know that the film will take place on planet Earth. The studio released some more images that depict agony and a lot of dead frozen bodies. You can see all the images at the bottom of the article.
A recent rumor has popped up at The Playlist that gives us an interesting tie in to the original films. (The post is not removed from the site. You will only see this when you go to the link: “Spoiler removed at the request of the studio”).
In the article, The Playlist writes:
Sources close to film and actress tell us the Waterston will be playing Ellen Ripley’s mother in “Alien: Covenant,” which is an amazing twist and true to Ridley Scott’s promise that the post-“Prometheus” prequels will eventually lead right up to the first “Alien” movie. It should be noted however that Waterston isn’t the lead of the movie, and it’s an ensemble piece like “Prometheus.”
This seems to show that this film will tie directly to the original Alien films, and that direct link will be through Ripley. This might explain why Ripley has such an amazing drive in the first films. It has been said that the cast will be an ensemble cast, which means that there will be many central characters.
Who was guilty for leaking script secrets, and one that is a potential bombshell as big as this rumor. You can guess that because the studio acted quickly, this rumor has truth to it. This is only a rumor, and nothing has been confirmed by the studio or the cast.
Alien: Covenant hits theaters in August 2017. We will have to wait until the film’s release date get closer to find out more information.
