‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ is Getting Fantastic New Ships

Star Wars Rogue, io9, Disney

This past weekend was Star Wars Celebration in Europe, and there was a ton of new information that released about upcoming Star Wars projects. Lucasfilm told us that Rogue One would feature new ships, but this weekend we finally got to see a few of the designs and models. These ships are great, and are wonderful updates of the classic ship designs that we all love.

Three new ship designs were featured on the showroom floor. Attendees got up-close looks at the TIE Striker, AT-ACT, and the Imperial Ship of Director Krennic. The TIE Striker is sleek, and looks like a great precision fighter to add to the Empire’s arsenal. The AT-ACT looks like the AT-AT’s from Empire Strikes Back. But it is larger and is set up to transport cargo and not functioning as an assault vehicle.

The ship that has the largest wow factor is Director Krennic’s Imperial Ship. It’s appearance is menacing, and features a design that is reminiscent of Vader’s Lambda Class T-4a. It even shows a slight design similarity to Kylo Ren’s transport ship.

Check out the official descriptions of the ships from Lucasfilm:

Tie Striker

A streamlined variant of the classic TIE fighter design. The TIE striker is designed for atmospheric patrols over important Imperial ground-based installations. The versatile design can also soar in space, where it can accompany traditional TIE fighters in chasing down enemy starships.

AT-ACT

A larger version of the standard combat AT-AT, the AT-ACT walker features a dedicated cargo bed for the transportation of heavy building materials or combat munitions. It was deployed at major Imperial construction projects, such as shipyards and sprawling research installations.

Krennic’s Imperial Shuttle

With its starkly geometric hull shape and folding bat-like wings, the approach of Delta-class T-3c shuttle is an imposing sight. Once it lands and deploys its passengers—the cruel Director Krennic and his squad of elite troopers, all sense of dread proves extremely warranted.
