‘Fantastic Beasts’ to Be a Trilogy, Rowling Done with 2nd Script

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Warner Bros. Pictures

Before it began production, Warner Bros. Pictures already had big plans for its “Harry Potter” spin-off “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”. The studio reveals plans for a trilogy, with release dates set for all three films. This is a moment to rejoice for all Potter fans, who have clamored for J.K. Rowling to write more tales set in the Harry Potter universe.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is still four months out, but according to director David Yates,  sequels are on the way. News broke a few weeks ago that J.K. Rowling turned in a draft for the second film in the series. Yates tells EW,

“We’ve seen the script for Part 2, for the second movie, which takes the story in a whole new direction – as you should, you don’t want to repeat yourself. The second movie introduces new characters as she builds this part of the Harry Potter universe further. It’s a very interesting development from where we start out. The work is pouring out of her.”

Colin Farrell loved to work on the film, but told Coming Soon:

“I mean you put that theme music up and J.K. Rowling and welcome back to a world of magic … It’s part of the Harry Potter universe. There’s no sure things,” he said. “There are sometimes things that are surprise successes and there are things that were designed purely for box office success that don’t work. This would be as sure a thing as possible, but there are no sure things.”

First the Student, Now the Teacher…

Although this film doesn’t star Harry Potter himself, the movie follows the adventures of Newt Scamander in the 1920s. Scamander is even listed as one of the authors of Harry’s schoolbooks of the same name as this film.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens on November 18, and the sequel is set to hit theaters on November 16, 2018. It stars Gemma Chan, Jon Voight, Carmen Ejogo, Ezra Miller, Ron Perlman, and Katherine Waterston.
