McGregor Keen on Having 2 Obi-Wan ‘Star Wars’ Movies

Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars, Disney

The Star Wars Prequels were nothing short of horrible, but there were a few shining gems to come out of the abominations. Ewan McGregor’s role as Obi-Wan Kenobi was one of those great things. Fans loved him, and it seemed like one of the only characters impervious to bad dialog.

In a recent interview, McGregor spoke with French publication Premiere (via Den of Geek) about the possibility of playing Kenobi once again, and even knows where in the timeline it all should happen. He wants the film(s) to take place after the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

“I’ve always thought there was a story to tell between my last one and Alec Guinness’ first one. It would be fun to film that story now I’m older. I’d be the right age. I’m forty-five, Alec Guinness was what, sixty? I could do two of them (laughs)! I hope that they’re going to explore different genres under the Star Wars banner. And one of those could be an Obi-Wan Kenobi feature film. Or two! The Obi-Wan Kenobi Story Part 1 and Part 2!”

McGregor has shot the idea down in the past, but seems keen on returning to the role. McGregor had a line during Rey’s Force dream, but there have been rumors of a Obi-Wan film for some time. Will Kenobi get a standalone film starring Ewan McGregor soon? Maybe Disney could fit one in after they release Rogue One, the young Han Solo film, and a potential Boba Fett movie. So, basically a long time from now. I could see this film being a hit, and would give fans more Jedi movies, which is ultimately what most Star Wars fans want.

I honestly would love to see a Obi-Wan Kenobi film that showed the events of Order 66 being enforced, and Kenobi and Yoda trying to save all the Jedi as they scatter to the reaches of a galaxy far, far, away. It would make for an interesting story, but would take place after The Clone Wars, and not after Revenge of the Sith.

When would you want an Obi-Wan movie to take place?
