Rian Johnson finally has begun to open up about his top select Star Wars movie. In a recent interview with USA Today, Johnson finally gave up some details about the film. This is what he had to say regarding the sequel to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
His first anecdote is that he officially confirms that the film is a direct sequel to The Force Awakens. Johnson says, “I don’t want to skip ahead two years. I want to see the very next moment of what happens.”. He goes on to say that this film is truly about Rey’s journey. It is about how she will deal with her newfound powers. He says,
“Part of what’s she’s dealing with is the realization that she has this power and this gift. She’s taking her first step to coming to terms with this thing inside her that she never knew was there and is just starting to reveal its potential.”
He goes on to say that this film will show Rey and Luke interacting for “a large part of the movie”. What we will find out is anyone’s guess at the moment, but you can be sure that we will find out why Luke has been in exile, and why he is choosing to come out again. My fingers are crossed that it’s because he will start a new Jedi Academy.
In other Star Wars related stuff, Making Star Wars reports that on Luke’s Planet there is a bird-type creature that is similar to the converses seen in the animated show, The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Kylo Ren will also be receiving a special TIE fighter, like Darth Vader sported in the original trilogy. This is sure to excite fans that criticized The Force Awakens for its lack of many space battles.
Star Wars Episode VIII will hit theaters on December 17, 2017.
