It is no secret that Natalie Portman doesn’t want to return for any further Thor films, but now Marvel’s Kevin Feige has given the reason in the films why Jane won’t come back. Back when The Dark World hit theaters, Portman hinted that she may be done with the MCU, and now this seems likely. The reasons are simpler than you might think. It basically boils down to lost love and off-screen breakups. At least Marvel is officially trying to discuss her absence in the films.
In a recent interview with EW, Feige says that Thor’s attention has shifted to Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie:
“We wanted Thor to encounter somebody that was near his equal and that his relationship with Jane may have evolved in unexpected ways in between The Dark World and Ragnarok and we wanted to pit him against a character who was much more his equal and in many ways his superior. Valkyrie is trying to not embrace any sort of Asgardian heritage that she has. Thor thinks maybe that will create a bond between them and, on the contrary, she wants to forget it all entirely.”
Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor in the films, added that Thor is doing his own thing now:
“(Thor)’s certainly enjoying being a drifter, being a solo cowboy out there.”
In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor finds himself imprisoned across the universe without his trusty hammer Mjolnir. With impending doom threatening the existence of Asgard, will Thor make it back in time to save his people? Here is the official synopsis:
Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela (Cate Blanchett) from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.
Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Karl Urban as Skurge.
