The Beautiful Tribute to Carrie Fisher Shown at the 40th Anniversary of ‘Star Wars’

Carrie Fisher will forever be in the hearts and minds of Star Wars fans. Her recent 2016 passing shocked the world. At this years’ Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, the entire celebration kicked off with a touching tribute to Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher). The Celebration this year marks the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars.

Many of the saga’s actors showed up to honor the memory of Fisher. Unfortunately Fisher could not attend the celebration, but along with this touching video, she will not be forgotten. Kathleen Kennedy (Lucasfilm President) George Lucas, and Scream Queens star Billie Lourd (Fisher’s daughter) took the stage to give heart-wrenching speeches in honor of Fisher and her stellar acting career.

Her absence in future Star Wars films will be felt, and what direction the production will take to fill that void is anyone’s guess. On March 23, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced:

“Carrie appears throughout [Episode] 8. We are not changing 8 to deal with her passing. Her performance remains as it is in 8.”

Disney executives have discussed the effects Fisher’s death will have on the franchise. She will appear in a large part of The Last Jedi, but will not be digitally placed in any future Star Wars films. If the studio will use her, it will have to be additional footage cut from The Last Jedi or The Force Awakens. In a statement to fans, Lucasfilm stated:

“We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.”

The Last Jedi will begin immediately after the events of Star WarsThe Force Awakens. It stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

Recent announcements indicate that Fisher will appear for the last time in The Last Jedi this December.
