Screen Gems tapped digital horror network Crypt TV to produce a short film based on the classic William Castle 1960s horror film 13 Ghosts.
This is the second adaptation of the film, and looks to be a feat to pull off in a 10-minute film format. Shooting begins this winter, with a release scheduled for early 2020 on Crypt’s YouTube and Facebook channels.
The core story follows a family, who inherent a house haunted by 13 evil spirits. The studio is attempting to create long-form content, but that rests solely on the performance of the 13 Ghosts short.
The first adaptation of Ghosts happened in 2001. The film starred Shannon Elizabeth, Matthew Lillard, and F. Murray Abraham. The reboot was fantastic. Just how much of the story will appear in 10 minutes is the big question.
Crypt recently created five exclusive original series for Facebook Watch, and Ghosts is the first established IP they have worked with. Scott Strauss and Michael Bitar will produce.
