Batman Is a Terrorist in ‘Suicide Squad’

Batman v Superman, Warner Brothers Pictures

The set visit embargo lifted this morning on for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. One of the big questions surrounding the film, is how does Batman fit into the plot of Suicide Squad? Is his role a mere cameo, or does he play a larger role in the plot of the film?

Any fan of DC will tell you that the Dark Knight is a big player in the comic universes of practically every member of the Suicide Squad. His presence is no coincidence, or DC just trying to force the Caped Crusader into every film that takes place in the DCEU.

Now, thanks to the embargo lifting, we know how Batman fits into the storyline of this film. According to producer Charles Roven Batman is essential to Suicide Squad:

“He has purpose for what he’s doing, and you couldn’t tell the story of the Suicide Squad – as you mentioned so many of the characters that are in that squad had some interaction with him in order to get into Belle Reve, so you have to deal with that at the very least.

Enter Batman….The Villain

According to David Ayer, the plot for Suicide Squad is extremely complex. The storylines in the film will be chocked full of flashbacks and converging storylines. Batman is a villain in this film because all the heroes are villains. This interesting take on the Dark Knight is something I am looking forward to seeing play out on the big screen. David Ayer says:

“All the Batman movies have been from Batman’s point of view. He’s the good guy. He’s the hero of his own movie in all the movies we’ve seen. If you look at what Bruce Wayne has done in creating the Batman persona, his idea was to terrorize criminals. It’s sort of psychological warfare against criminals. This wraith that comes in the night and attacks and pulls criminals from society. For the first time, we’re seeing Batman from the point of view of the criminals and he’s freaking scary.”

Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5.
