An Edgar Wright film hasn’t been on the big screen since 2013 with The World’s End. He chooses his projects pretty carefully and takes his time. His newest film, Baby Driver, will take the car chase movie down a whole new road. Ansel Elgort plays an eccentric getaway driver named Baby.

Baby Driver is an original screenplay by Edgar Wright about a getaway driver that constantly listens to music to better focus on the world around him. To the outside world he seems odd and even handicapped, but the beats in his ears actually give an edge over all the people chasing after him. Baby is the best in the business until he meets the woman of his dreams, Lily James, and decides he wants out of the dangerous business. His crime boss, played by Kevin Spacey, forces him to keep driving by threatening his life, love, and freedom.

Edgar Wright’s style is what sets every one of his films apart from the rest. If you liked Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, or Scott Pilgrim vs. The World then you can bet that this one is worth checking out. It looks like Baby Driver is Wright’s first real attempt at a mainstream successful movie.

Early reviews tell us that music is what really drives this film. The music that Baby constantly listens to scores each car chase and gives Wright the excuse to turn every action sequence into a music video; even going so far as to sync gunshots up with the drum beats in Baby’s headphones. Today the car movie genre is dominated by movies like the Fast and Furious franchise, where the laws of physics and storytelling are pretty much ignored. It’s been too long since we’ve had a good car chase movie like this one looks to be.

The film also boasts an all-star cast as the other criminals that serve as obstacles in Baby’s drive to freedom. Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Eliza Gonzalez, and Jon Bernthal all do their best to look menacing in this trailer.

Baby Driver is set to hit theaters on June 28, 2017.
