Alan Tudyk’s K-2SO Will Not Be in ‘Star Wars: Andor’ S1

Alan Tudyk confirms that he’s not a part of the Rogue One spin-off series Star Wars: Andor for at least the first season of the show.

Tudyk famously voiced the reprogrammed imperial droid K-2SO in Rogue One. K-2SO served as the sidekick to Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor.

More than that, the droid served as comic relief for the film, continuing a trend that George Lucas began in the original Star Wars trilogy.

Tudyk and Luna were both on-stage in 2019 when the series announcement happened at D23, but in what capacity K-2SO will appear in the series is still a mystery.

In an interview with Collider while promoting his new Syfy series Resident Alien, Tudyk revealed he isn’t in Star Wars: Andor:

“They’re shooting it right now, I’m not in it. But, if it stays on the air, stories keep getting told, I’ll end up in there.

I’m going to be in the show. It’s just that the story that Tony [Gilroy] is telling doesn’t involve K-2SO until later on… I can’t be too specific, but I can definitely say that I’m not going to be in the first season.”

Tudyk goes on to say that his age is of some concern with being able to continue portraying the droid. His mo-cap suit is quite elaborate, and comes with stilts:

“I do know this: I have to be on stilts for it, because the character is 7’1″ and I’m not one of those guys that says, ‘somebody else do the motion capture, and I’ll voice it later’.

I’ll have to do the motion capture, and I turn 50 in March. So I hope they get to it soon, because I’m not going to be on stilts in, like, five years. I’m not doing it!”

Tudyk’s comments also indicate that Andor will not be a limited series, instead it will continue similar to The Mandalorian. Tony Gilroy has every intention to continue the series past the first season.
