** Warning: spoilers for Army of the Dead**
Army of Thieves is a prequel set in the world of Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead. However, Snyder is only producing the movie. Someone else is in the directing chair. That person is Matthias Schweighöfer.
If his name seems familiar, it’s because we’ve seen him in Army of the Dead. Matthias plays Dieter the greatest safecracker in the world, who’s also easily scared.
Army of the Thieves sees Matthias return as Dieter as he leads other thieves on a top-secret heist during the beginning of the zombie apocalypse.
A trailer is out and you can see it below:
Army of Thieves also stars Nathalie Emmanuel, Ruby O. Fee, Guz Khan, Stuart Martin and Jonathan Cohen. Its story seems to be similar to Army of the Dead with a group trying to break into a safe.
However, this time, rather than helping Bly Tanaka, they’re stealing from him.
Although, Army of the Dead‘s twist wasn’t about the money all along, but the Government needing a sample of the zombie contagion before blowing Las Vegas to kingdom come.
It’ll be interesting to see Dieter before the events of the original film. The trailer teases a budding relationship between him and Nathalie’s character, Gwendoline.
We also know who will be scoring Army of Thieves. Announced at the Netflix online convention, TUDUM, producer Deborah Snyder recounts a sweet story:
The film is so strong, but we were struggling with what our unique sound was gonna be. I get this call and it’s Hans, and he was like, ‘Can I see this film? I’m German, part of this film is German, this might be a good fit.’ I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, this is amazing!’ And so, I think audiences are gonna be really excited at the music for this one.”
Hans Zimmer scoring the movie is definitely exciting.
Army of Thieves releases on Netflix on the 29th of October 2021.
