How many more Avatar films are we going to get? Why is it taking James Cameron so long to finish Avatar 2? According to Cameron, he is shooting the second, third, and fourth films all at the same time. He is not abandoning the franchise. He has just been developing the technology to shoot them correctly. (Actually, if you know anything about James Cameron, then you know that he thrives on creating new camera technology for every film he does.)
In a recent interview with Coming Soon, Sigourney Weaver talked about the preliminary shooting that James Cameron has already done. According to Weaver, he is just doing test shoots. He’s trying to work out the kinks in his technology, before moving forward with shooting the films:
I think what he’s been doing is trying to develop the technology. We’re going to do all four simultaneously, so I think he’s trying to make sure that he has really done all the groundwork so when he really starts these four we’ll be able to hit the ground running. So I don’t think he’s actually… he IS experimenting. I don’t know if any of that would end up in the movie ’cause it’s not actually any of the story, but I’m sure he’s trying to figure out how to photograph an animal in this situation, things like that, so on the day he doesn’t have to waste time finding that out.
Weaver also added that she has been included in this test phase process a bit:
Conversationally, yes. I’ve read three of the four scripts and if you liked the first one hold onto your hat. It is so ambitious and it is so moving. Nothing like it.
Will Avatar 2 blow our minds like the first film did? (I’m merely talking about the 3D, not the plot of the film.)
Avatar 2 is looking at a December 21, 2018 release date.
