Comic Book Pull List July 12: Here’s What I’m Getting This Week

Wonder Woman #26, DC Comics

There are piles of comic books published every week and it’s never easy to decide what is worth buying. I’m here to help. These are the comic book that I am getting this week.

Spider-Men II #1

written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by Sara Pichelli

The original Spider-Men comic book crossover was one of the first crossovers ever between the primary Marvel Universe and the off-shoot Ultimate Marvel Universe. It was the a team-up mini-series for Miles Morales and the adult Peter Parker. That series was a ton of fun and high swinging action. It was foreshadowing of how the two would later interact when Miles Morales made the jump into the Marvel main universe. This new series promises to delve into the mysterious cliffhanger left hanging at the end of the first one. Who is the Miles Morales from the original Marvel world? Bendis has promised a big reveal here and it’s just the tip of the iceberg of a much bigger mystery for these two heroes to unravel.

Black Panther and the Crew #4

written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and drawn by Butch Guice

Unfortunately, this comic book series only has a handful of issues left. The team of Black Panther and his crew are only now really coming together. All of these characters were somehow touched in the past by the life of activist and street level hero Ezra Miller. They have all come together to solve the murder of this Harlem hero, but if they want the truth then they will have to take the whole truth. It turns out that Ezra had some dark secrets of his own back in the day. There’s still time to get into this series before it goes away. I highly recommend it.

Justice League of America #10

written by Steve Orlando and drawn by Andy MacDonald

This latest version of the Justice League of America comic book has a very unique cast of characters. The Ray thought that he would never return to his hometown, but now it appears that he and his new team will be drawn back there by the forces of chaos and order. An unknown force called the Might Beyond the Mirror has been giving away wishes to anyone who asks. The ruthless Lord of Order is stepping in and will be lethal in his efforts to bring order to the chaos. He wants to destroy the dream and wishes of the people of Vanity. The Ray and the Justice League of America are caught in the middle of a cosmic battle between order and chaos.

Wonder Woman #26

written by Shea Fontana and drawn by Mirka Andolfo

Greg Rucka just finished a brand new character defining run on Wonder Woman. New comic book writer Shea Fontana has big shoes to fill. She is coming fresh off the DC Super Hero Girls comic book series and is bringing her new take to Wonder Woman. That series was all-ages for new readers who wanted to read about the women of the DC universe. This is a big chance for her to step into the lime light of this series right after the movie that has broken all sorts of records. Diana is attending the wedding of a close friend, but the bad news is that something horrific has followed her there.

Totally Awesome Hulk Vol. 3 Big Apple Showdown

written by Greg Pak and drawn by Luke Ross

The Amadeus Cho comic book version of the Hulk has been a much more fun version of the green goliath. Free of the angst and anger of Bruce Banner’s Hulk, this new take has made the Hulk something totally awesome. Greg Pak has been writing the Hulk now for several years and it shows that he has a handle on the character like no one else. This particular volume features a team-up of Asian and Asian-American heroes from across the Marvel Universe. Amadeus Cho leads the team of Silk, Shang-Chi, and the young Ms. Marvel. It’s a showdown in the Big Apple between this new team against a new alien race that threatens the planet earth. They are the last line of defense and only protectors to stand in their way.
