It’s been a long pandemic year, but finally, the first full-length trailer for F9: The Fast Saga hit the internet today. The sequel’s experienced numerous setbacks, but remained in play with several television spots that hit the airwaves over the past year.
Check out the first full-length trailer below:
This is the remarkably ninth film in the Fast and Furious franchise. This time around, Dom and the gang must shut-down a worldwide plot led by a highly-trained assassin and performance car driver. But this isn’t just another villain, it’s Dom’s estranged brother, Jakob (John Cena).
Jakob teams-up with Charlize Theron’s Cipher, the villain from The Fate of the Furious. Paul Walker’s Brian returns for the sequel, but it didn’t feel right at first. Director Justin Lin tells Variety:
The idea of Brian O’Connor still alive in this universe, it’s very impactful and it’s very important. Fast 9 is really the beginning of the final chapter of the saga. So in doing that, I think there’s a lot of room to really place our characters, and Brian obviously is a big part of the universe still.
I want to always be very respectful and how we present that. I think that [in] Nine, you will feel the presence of Brian, for sure.
The film’s runtime comes in at 145 minutes (2 hours and 25 minutes), making it the longest Fast and Furious to date. This is the beginning of the end for the franchise.
There’s two more films in the chute, but this film starts the major storylines that lead to the big finale for the franchise.
Justin Lin returns to direct F9: The Fast Saga, while Dan Casey and Chris Morgan penned the script. The film also stars Finn Cole, Anna Sawai, Vinnie Bennett and Michael Rooker.
