THe DCEU is in a state of disarray if you read most headlines nowadays. Although no one seems to know who is coming and going in the DCEU, it appears to Jason Momoa that Henry Cavill is still 100% committed to playing Superman.
Since before Justice League hit theaters, rumors swirled about Ben Affleck leaving the universe as Batman. Then came rumors that Henry Cavill was about to depart the role of Superman.
Last week, Amy Adams stated that she might not return as Lois Lane and that Warner Bros. is considering rebooting the entire DCEU.
Jason Momoa (Aquaman) commented earlier this week to The Huffington Post on the possible departures of Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill:
What Warner Bros. intentions are at the moment is a bit of a mystery, but for now, one actor appears to still be dedicated to his role.
“If they’re both out, then listen: It’s just the place they’re at in their careers. I mean, how many
has Henry done? He’s done three?Yeah, I mean, like, you want to move on. I think if I did… s–t, I have done three. Ben is an amazing director that is of age, and probably he’s done enough.
I don’t know how to speak on behalf of them, but I had the time of my life [on Justice League].
Henry is the gentlemen who taught me when I came on not knowing anything. I’m like the ruffian hooligan, and he’s just like, ‘There’s
kids watching,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh, yeah. My bad.’He is totally 100% the Superman for me.”
Then, he backtracked the intentions of his comments with Entertainment Tonight at the Red Carpet event for Aquaman. According to Momoa, Cavill’s not done with Superman yet:
“He’s absolutely not. He loves the character and he’s not [leaving]. 100%.”
It appears that Cavill’s Superman is not going anywhere anytime soon. Affleck’s status as the Dark Knight is also still up in the air, due to Matt Reeves The Batman.
Affleck stepped down from directing The Batman. A script rewrite is due before the end of the year.
Speculation suggests that a Man of Steel 2 could begin production soon, bringing Superman back to the big screen. Aquaman hits theaters on December 21st.
