Marvel made a huge splash in Hall H with all the Spider-Man: Homecoming announcements. This came as a big surprise to attendees at Comic-Con, because it wasn’t expected to have very much of a presence. Marvel is standing firm on the idea that although this is a partnership with Sony, this is Marvel’s Spider-Man. Director Jon Watts (Cop Car, Clown) talked with Comicbook.com about how the Web Slinger fits into the Marvel Cinematic Universe:
“If the Avengers Tower is the penthouse and we know what it’s like to be a millionaire, billionaire playboy to be Tony or we know what it’s like to be a God on another planet, that’s the penthouse level of the MCU. Spider-Man is the ground floor. What does a high school in the MCU look like? What does riding the subway in the MCU feel like? Spider-Man seems like the most perfect opportunity because he’s the most regular person in the canon that I thought he was a great chance to show what that angle of the MCU feels like.”
Spidey will be back on the big screen before we know it. Tom Holland was a revelation in Spidey’s first appearance in the MCU in Captain America: Civil War. Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Michael Keaton as Vulture, and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. The cast also includes Donald Glover, Martin Starr, Laura Harrier, Kenneth Choi, Michael Barberi, and Logan Marshall-Green.
