Batwoman is the newest show in The CW Arrowverse. Although, it won’t be the new kid on the block for much longer. Superman and Lois is filming under Covid-19 restrictions and is supposed to air in January 2021. The first season of Batwoman saw Ruby Rose as Kate Kane, the first openly gay lead in a superhero show.
She spent most of the season battling her twin sister, Beth, who reinvented herself as Alice. Unfortunately, her troubles didn’t stop there. Her father, Jacob Kane, is the leader of the private security firm the Crows, and is also against vigilantes.
The season ends on a cliffhanger involving a fake Bruce Wayne and a book that exposes Batwoman’s weakness. However, there’s a chance we might not see that play out. Ruby Rose confirmed she isn’t returning as the character not long after the end of season one.
That means Kate Kane is disappearing for now. In the comics, Kate is Batwoman but those behind the show are bringing in an original character. Javicia Leslie is portraying Ryan Wilder, making her the first black actress to be Batwoman.
A first look at her in the Batwoman costume has been revealed. Take a look at it below:
Part of season two’s storyline is a slight rehash of season one. Although rather than Kate wondering what happened to Bruce, Ryan and the rest of the BatFamily are searching for Kate. Rumors suggest Kate either returns at the end of season two or season three.
However, since Ruby Rose isn’t returning, somebody else will take her place.
The season also sees the introduction of Batwoman villain Safiyah. In the comics, she is a former lover of Kate Kane who runs the pirate nation Coryana. Furthermore, it seems like this is changing in the show and she’ll be the leader of the Many Arms of Death. Shivani Ghai is playing Safiyah in season two.
Batwoman season two is currently filming with a release date of January 2021.
