The DC division of Warner Brothers has a storied past with audiences, critics and the box office. So far, Wonder Woman and Aquaman are the only new DC movies to perform well at the box office and see acclaim by audiences and critics. Joker looks to reach the same heights, as it remains on top of the box office again.
Meanwhile, the likes of Suicide Squad and Justice League brought in the money at the box office but failed to impress. However, it appears Warner Brothers are laughing all the way to the bank as the Joaquin Phoenix-led Joker breaks records.
Joker has overcome Deadpool and Deadpool 2 to become the biggest R-rated movie of all time in global grosses. Since its release, the movie has raked in $571 overseas while accumulating $277 million domestically.
Considering Zombieland: Double Tap, The Addams Family and Maleficient: Mistress of Evil are all out, it’s surprising to see Joker holding steady.
It appears even the star power of Angelina Jolie isn’t enough to topple the Clown Prince of Crime… But could the latest Stephen King adaptation, Doctor Sleep, do so when it arrives in theatres?
Only time will tell but for now, Joker looks to be staying on top.
