The Star Wars rumor mill went wild this week about director Jon Favreau’s mystery spin-off series. Favreau took to Instagram to confirm the name of the series and to drop the first synopsis of the live-action Star Wars television show coming to Disney’s streaming service launching next year.
Favreau will executive produce the new series, titled The Mandalorian. Production began on the series this week. The series will take place in the universe in between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Check out Favreau’s post below:

“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”
He followed up this post with the first image from the show, revealing the mysterious Mandalorian. See the image below:

The studio has yet to reveal and casting for the show, or any of the episode’s directors. Dave Filoni, Alan Taylor, and Taika Waititi are all rumored to helm an episode in the eight-episode first season of the show.
