Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets has just entered theaters but it appears that the naive director is pushing forward with the narrative. This is a good sign for fans of the directors work, which includes cut classic The Fifth Element.

In a recent interview with The Nerdist, Besson says he already has finished a script for Valerian 2, but he just couldn’t stand by and wait to see how Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets does in theaters. The story seems to have inspired him to keep going. This is a good sign to anyone questioning the foundations of the story for Valerian:

“I finished the number 2 already and I’m writing the number 3. I don’t know if we will do it, because it’s not up to me. It’s up to the audience if they like it. But my friends all said, ‘Why are you writing the second one? You don’t even know if you’re going to do it.’ [And I said] ‘I don’t care. It’s fine. [laughs] I’m just happy to write it. I’m enjoying writing it. I don’t even wait. I’m just writing for myself. So I finished the [sequel] already, and I got bored a month ago, so I said, ‘Let’s write the third.”
