Logan was the perfect ending to a brilliant run by Hugh Jackman as the X-Men member Wolverine. One of the biggest surprises from the film was Dafne Keen’s portrayal of X23/Laura. She was vibrant, passionate, aggressive, and perfect in the role as the young mutant. Although Jackman’s run as The Wolverine has come to an end, could we see X23 take the Wolverine mantle as she has in the comic books?
According to Logan director James Mangold, as he spoke at a special black-and-white screening of Logan (referred to as Logan Noir) at the Alamo Drafthouse, there have been conversations about bringing the young mutant back to the universe:
“Anything’s possible. I’ve certainly talked to them about it. I even talked to them about it before we made the movie. I thought she was just such a great character, but with what Dafne did, I think that certainly that’s possible.”
Does this mean that we could see X23 return soon? It would be great to see her interact with Deadpool in the X-Force film, but will 20th Century Fox be willing to bridge the gap between the humorous side of the X-Men universe with the serious side? X23 currently headlines Marvel’s All-New Wolverine. She has been a member of the X-Force in the comics as well.
Keen’s audition for the role of X23 was recently released, and shows just how great of a young actress she really is. You can check out the audition below:
The dynamic between Keen and Jackman is amazing to watch unfold, and I can’t image how surprised the casting crew was when she began. It is a priceless scene that is included on the digital release of Logan that dropped yesterday on Digital HD. The clip will also come with the disk version of the film.
Logan comes to Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on May 23.
