Famed director Terry Gilliam is just like you and I. Sure, he is a world-famous director. Worked with Johnny Depp, Robert DeNiro and the other members of Monty Python and you can’t convince your girlfriend to take one lousy picture. No, that is not the way. He runs into money trouble. His latest film, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote was delayed just days before it was set to go into production.
Set to star Adam Driver, of Force Awakens and Girls fame, as well as fellow ex Python mate Michael Palin, it seemed for a while the film was finally about to get the go ahead. None of this Gilliam’s fault.
According to Indie Wire, the recent trouble involves a questionable Portuguese producer. I was supposed to start to be shooting it starting next Monday. It’s been slightly delayed,” Gilliam told Ross. “I had this producer, a Portuguese chap, who claimed he’d get all the money together in time. And a few weeks ago, he proved that he didn’t have the money. So we are still marching forward. It is not dead. I will be dead before the film is.”

Long a passion project of Terry Gilliam’s, as you read , he vows to fight on. During a press conference as Cannes, the director cheekily vowed that the film would premiere there within the year. Also saying, “…and then you can ask me why I made such a mess of it or why I made such a wonderful film.”
Adam Driver is one of a long line of stars that have been set to star in the perpetually unlucky production. Other names include Johnny Depp, Ewan McGregor and John Hurt. All dropped out after one misfortune or the other. As well, AV Club reports that Amazon, the Seattle-based monolith was interested in investing in the film. The site noted, however, there were no concrete details in what way the company was offering its help.
