After a long wait, Sony has finally confirmed the release date for their next-generation console. During the Playstation showcase, it was revealed the Playstation 5 is available in November. However, there’s a catch.
The console has two release dates. Gamers in North America, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand can play it from November 12. Meanwhile, the rest of the world needs to wait another week before they can get their hands on it.
The console’s pricing is also confirmed. For months rumors spread stating it’ll cost from between $350 to $500. The psychical edition will cost $499.99 in the US while the digital edition is $399.99.
Pricing in other countries varies as seen in the official confirmation below:
The official Playstation blog confirms games will cost between $49.99 to $69.99.
Unfortunately, the higher range will be for games like Demon’s Souls and Destruction All-Stars. While it’s disheartening to see normal games retailing close to $70 there are games that will be cheaper.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is to be the cheapest game coming from Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios. It’s going to cost $49.99 for the base game. If you want the ultimate edition then the price jumps up to $69.99.
There is already a list of games available for the PS5. These include Hogwarts Legacy, Devil May Cry 5 (Special Edition) and Final Fantasy XVI. If that isn’t enough, there will also be new installments of Resident Evil and God of War.
The next main Resident Evil game is Village. It sees the return of Ethan and Mia from Resident Evil Biohazard. A fan-favorite in the guise of Chris is also returning.
Meanwhile, the new God of War game is simply titled Ragnarok. What this means for the franchise is unclear, but in Norse Mythology Ragnarok is the end of everything. The game is releasing at some point in 2021.
Furthermore, Playstation Plus subscribers will get to take full advantage of a library consisting of PS4 games. Available from launch, Batman: Arkham Knight, The Last of Us Remastered, Uncharted 4 and Days Gone are only a selection of the content.
The Playstation Plus Collection appears to be similar to Playstation Now. However, it isn’t a separate subscription this time around. It’s going to be part of the Playstation Plus subscription.
This doesn’t mean the PS5 won’t be backwards compatible. The official Playstation blog confirms over 4,000 PS4 titles will be playable on the PS5.
Sony’s Playstation 5 is available to pre-order and releases November 12.
