Rumors surfaced earlier this week speculated that director Matt Reeves’ upcoming film The Batman will not be a part of the DC Extended Universe. Reeves has addressed these comments quickly, stating how his film will fit into the bigger Warner Bros. DCEU continuity.
On Twitter earlier this morning, Reeves was quick to dismiss the rumors that The Batman will serve as a stand-alone film. He says that his Batman film will fit into the DC Extended Universe with Justice League, Wonder Woman, and Man of Steel:
“Just to be clear: Of COURSE Batman will be part of the D.C. Universe. Batman will be BATMAN. In my comments from a while back about not being part of the DCEU, I was talking about The Batman being a story specifically about Batman… not about the others in the Universe. That it wouldn’t be filled with cameos servicing other stories – that it would be a BATMAN story.”
The rumors regarding Reeves earlier comments resurfaced when Warner Bros. announced that it would develop DC films that existed outside of the DCEU. The first of these films is going to be Todd Phillips’ Joker and Harley Quinn, which is set to be a Joker origin story. There is no indication if Ben Affleck will reprise his role as Batman after the Justice League, although fans love his portrayal of the Dark Knight. After stepping down as director of The Batman, Affleck has been on the fence regarding the role.
