Big Game #5 is the grand finale to the mighty Millarworld crossover. It promised to bring superheroes, assassins, spies, magic users, and more together. It’s safe to say it did just that. The story is by Mark Millar while the art comes from Pepe Larraz.
Be careful of spoilers from other Millarworld comics within the review including the other four issues of Big Game. However, spoilers for the final issue will be kept to a minimum and even then it won’t be specific.
Big Game #4 was the game-changer. Thanks to Mindy traveling back in time, a foe from the pages of Empress rears his ugly head. That powerful ancient evil sends an army to the future to make sure he takes over Earth once more.
I’m a broken record but I can’t say anything about the details of Big Game #5. However, it ends the only way it can and is by far the best issue of the series. It also warms my heart to see the characters who started this get the spotlight, especially Hit-Girl. If it wasn’t for Kick-Ass and her, the Millarworld would be a very different place.
We also get more with characters from my favorite Millarworld series. The one thing going forward is seeing how the universe progresses. This is, after all, Mark Millar’s Crisis on Infinite Earths and Secret Wars. It’s the culmination of 20 years of work starting with Wanted in 2003. When you pick up Big Game #5 I doubt you’ll be disappointed.
If there’s one thing Millarworld does well it’s getting the best artists in the business. Pepe Larraz is no exception. His work on Big Game is sensational and it’s never been better than within the interior of Big Game #5. It’s amazing seeing all these characters in one style and coming from such a talented artist. In particular, there is a page or two I’d love as a poster.
Big Game #5 is the end of the crossover. What comes next is unknown to us but I’m excited to see what spins out of this.
