Nemesis Reloaded #1 is the first issue in a soft reboot of a familiar character. For those who know Millarworld, Nemesis should be a familiar name. Originally released in 2010, it was a four-issue series from Mark Millar and Steve McNiven. It was outrageous, bloody and everything you’d expect from the mind of Mark Millar. However, unlike Nemesis Reloaded, the original series was released under the Icon Comic print belonging to Marvel.
This is one of the reasons we seeing the character’s return. With Nemesis Reloaded, Mark Millar is able to integrate one of his most popular characters into the upcoming crossover between his many series. This new series is all about exploring the character further and showing his real origin. Nemesis Reloaded #1 is written by Mark Millar while the art is from Jorge Jiménez.
Let’s see the real origin of Mark Millar’s greatest supervillain.
Leave everything you thought you knew about Nemesis behind. Nemesis Reloaded #1 re-introduces the supervillain in a stellar fashion. You think you might know where it’s going but believe me when I say you don’t. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a straightforward plot (Nemesis is recruiting new goons to help with a heist) but that doesn’t mean the events are straightforward. If you read the last series you won’t be surprised by the swearing or gore. All of that is back and with a vengeance.
Saying anything else about the story would be spoiling. The best thing you can do is to read it yourself. It feels good to say Nemesis is finally back. Nothing will be the same ever again.
Furthermore, the art by Jorge Jiménez is destructively beautiful. There’s a similarity between his and Steve McNiven’s art to provide us with that connect tissue. However, he’s put his own spin on it and created a breathtaking result that forces Nemesis to jump out of the page. I can already tell the art in this series is going to be special.
