The status of many of the Marvel films in the chute at 21st Century Fox is up in the air since the Disney acquisition. Many think that Disney will wipe the slate clean, and start the X-Men franchise over.
This may still be the case, but recently, Marvel’s had secret discussions with the core X-Men actors. X-Men: Apocalypse director Simon Kinberg was asked about the status of Gambit. Kinberg seems optimistic about the buyout, in a recent interview with Variety:
“All of the movies at Fox are being evaluated. I love the idea of Channing playing Gambit. I think we have a great script for it and I think it’s a role he was born to play.
It’s a character I grew up loving and I know the fans love. So I suspect, I hope it will happen. There will be a lot of mixing and merging now and I’m all for it and excited to see.”
There is no doubt that Marvel will use the X-Men. It is a franchise that is ripe with potential. The spin-offs are the big question. Will Marvel still keep Gambit on the slate?
