With the Covid-19 virus holding the world hostage, Sony Pictures wasted no time setting back the Jared Leto-led Morbius film once again. Sony already pushed the back to March 19, 2021 from July 2020. The new theatrical release date is October 8, 2021.
The setback is only seven months this time. Could we still see vacant theaters in October 2021, or do you feel that society will be back to normal by that time? This could be Sony Pictures showing some optimism about the reopening of the global economy as a whole.
The film’s based on the Marvel comics title Morbius the Living Vampire. Jared Leto’s Michael Morbius, a scientist with an aggressive rare blood disease who tries to cure himself. He accidentally afflicts himself with a type of vampirism.
Check out the official synopsis for the movie below:
One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius.
Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble.
What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.
The film stars Jared Leto, Matt Smith (Loxias Crown), Jared Harris, Adria Arjona, Tyrese Gibson, Al Madrigal. Daniel Espinosa helms Morbius.
Morbius becomes the second Spider-Man spin-off film in the Sony Cinematic Spider-Verse. We already saw a glimpse of the Web-slinger in the first trailer for the film, but just how much crossover is there? It’s a safe bet that any cameo will be minimal, as Sony starts to play the MCU easter egg plot weaving game.
