Patty Jenkins hit a homerun this year with her first dip into the DC cinematic universe with Wonder Woman. The film was a surprising step from the dark, brooding world of Zack Snyder’s DC universe. Fans and critics agree that Wonder Woman was the best film DC has produced to date, and with Justice League underperforming, the rest of the DCEU could follow suit.
Details from the recently-announced Wonder Woman 2 are starting to leak out. Although the film isn’t due out until November 2019, Patty Jenkins is starting to plan out the film. She shared a few details about what can be expected in the sequel. Jenkins also talked about how the love theme will carry over.
In a recent interview with Variety, Jenkins spoke about her plan for Wonder Woman 2. She says that the film won’t tie directly into the other DC films, but it will be set in the same cinematic universe. The biggest thing Jenkins says, is that the film will bring a potential new love interest to Diana:
It’s really still going to other values of hers, and a similar formula insofar as making a great, enjoyable fun movie but that ultimately in its third act turns some very big issues, and a very big experience that will aim to have slightly more weight and profundity than it has to have. Because that’s a formula that I really like, and I like the idea of taking somebody on a very solid, great journey but that arrives at a bigger question being answered. So it’s like that but because she is Wonder Woman and she’s here now and she’s fully developed, it’s got great fun from the start and great big superhero presence from the start, and is funny and a great love story again and a couple new unbelievable characters who I’m so excited about, who are very different than were in the last movie.
Who is Patty Jenkins secret new lover for Gal Gadot? Gadot recently remarked that Halle Berry could play her potential new love interest. This would align the character’s sexual interests with her comic book counterpart. While this may be an unlikely move, it would change the dynamic of the films. There are a few characters from the comics that could be hopefuls for the film. Trevor Barnes, who is Steve Trevor’s nephew, or even Bruce Wayne, although Jenkins says that no characters will crossover.
