I have a small confession to make. Being a product of 1980s and 1990s culture, I love The Expendables movies. I wish that we still got macho films or at least an action hero that doesn’t have great hair. Someone that cares more for the mission and how many guns he can carry, rather than looking good doing it. Where did they all go? Sadly those days are over now, but Sylvester Stallone is fighting to keep this style of film alive with his Expendables franchise.
The fourth entry in the series remains untitled, but Stallone has given us a morsel of information regarding the sequel every once in a while. According to Stallone, the fourth entry in the franchise is coming to theaters in 2018, with pre-production will beginning soon. Stallone gave the update via his Facebook page to tease the film. He goes on to say that this film will bring something new to the table. Here is his entire post:
“Working out for the next Expendables, that’s going to be great! Fingers crossed. We’re going to do our best, but I think we have some really great attitude going. We have good ideas. I think everyone is expecting something different and we’re going to give it to them.”
During the same interview, Stallone hints at his 1993 film Cliffhanger and winks. Does this mean that we could see Sly re-team with someone from that film? If anyone should be in The Expendables, it should be Michael Rooker. Throw the man a bone! I love John Lithgow, but Rooker fits the action hero mold better, in my opinion.
There were once rumors of an all-female Expendables movie, so this film might also look to include some women onto the mercenary team. This would definitely add a different dynamic to the mold.
Expendables 4 is shooting for a 2018 release date.
