Filming’s underway for the fourth season of Netflix’s Stranger Things again finally. Shooting just began when the COVID-19 pandemic began, shutting the production down for half a year.
In a recent interview with Collider, executive producer Shawn Levy talked about how the shutdown allowed the writer’s the time to improve the script quality. The negative side of the setback unfortunately pushed the show’s release date back as well:
“I’ll just say the pandemic definitely massively delayed shooting and therefore the launch of our current Season 4, date still TBD.
But it impacted very positively by allowing the Duffer brothers, for the first time ever, to write the entire season before we shoot it and to have time to rewrite in a way that they rarely had before so the quality of these screenplays are exceptional, maybe better than ever.”
Season 3 setup some extremely big plot lines, and season 4 looks to take the show in a direction that’s unfamiliar to the cast…away from Hawkins. What secrets lie outside the city limits? We will find out when season 4 hits Netflix.
All of the key cast members return for the new episodes set to air sometime in the later part of 2021.
