The first bit of information about DC’s The Batman is here and it comes courtesy of director Matt Reeves. His noir-styled detective script has been something of a mystery until now. Reeves recently broke radio silence about his Batman movie.
Rumors swirled that Reeves wanted a younger actor to play Batman, although the current Batman in the DCEU is nearing the end of his career. Speculation ran rampant about how Warner Brothers would handle this.
Last week, Ben Affleck bowed out of the role as the Caped Crusader. This effectively signified that the studio is moving forward with a younger version of the character. This is significant, because it also shows fans that the studio has no interest in using any other DC character to be Batman, although many have worn the cowl.
Reeves’ script currently is 160 pages for The Batman. The sweet-spot length for a script is 100-120. This means that the script will undergo at least one more edit before shooting. The news comes courtesy of Heat Vision, who also discussed recasting the role:
“In terms of who will play the next Batman, a lot of mixed messages of how old the actor will be going around town. Some have said Reeves had wanted a younger person in their 20s, others have said the studio would prefer an older actor in their 30s.
Let the guessing games begin… Hearing studio wants a familiar face and Reeves has his certain age in mind and that age is very specific like I said two names within 7 years of each other – the response: ‘too young, too old.’”
Reeves also said that casting for the film is right around the corner. A recent rumor about a Batman Beyond film in the works at Warner Brothers is bogus. A number of sources say this film is not happening, and that the rumors are false.
