Toy Story is a franchise that is full of moments that hit you right in the heartstrings. Each film in the franchise seems to reach greater emotional heights than its predecessor. The third film left fans in tears. According to Tom Hanks, the ending of Toy Story 4 might be the best scene of the entire franchise.
In a recent interview on the BBC’s The Chris Evans Show (via Cinema Blend) Hanks spoke about the final scene of the film, and how his own emotions wouldn’t let him face his coworkers while recording:
“The way you record Toy Story, you’re in a room with the team that has created it. When I went in for my last day of recording, I wanted to have my back to them, because usually you’re facing him so you can look right up and you can talk about it. But I didn’t want to see them and I wanted to pretend they couldn’t see me.
When I realized what they were going for, I realized, ‘Oh, this is a moment in history.’”
Initial leaks indicated that Toy Story 4 will focus on Woody’s search for Bo Peep. Tim Allen, Hank’s co-star also indicated that the end of the film was hard for him as well:
“I gotta resist getting emotional because I don’t wanna give it away, but this is an incredibly great story… They’ve got great characters, but a couple of scenes towards the end were really hard to get through.”
No matter what plotline Toy Story 4 follows, it appears to be a smash hit, even before it hits theaters. It is a franchise that Pixar needs to wrap up in a bright, big bow. It put the studio on the map.
Josh Cooley directs Toy Story 4, which hits theaters on June 21.
