Why You Will Not See the Comic-Con ‘Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2’ Footage

Marvel took an interesting stance this past week, when they stated that they would not be releasing the footage that was shown at the San Diego Comic-Con during their Hall H panel. In past years, the major studios have related their disdain with leaked footage making it to the internet. This year, most studios released all the footage simultaneously or shortly after their respective panels. Marvel, is not one of those studios.

Recently, Marvel announced that they would not release Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and its other upcoming films footage screened at the convention, due to fact that the footage was meant for attendees of the convention and was not completed. They quickly said that most of the footage shown will be released once the effects and other elements are complete. In an interview with EW, James Gunn states that he feels that the footage is not ready for the world yet, and stresses that what fans saw in Hall H was very early work.

“Of course I want to share with you guys everything. It’s important for me to be able to do that, but here’s the thing: the footage released at Comic-Con will eventually be seen by the public, but in a more finished form. It’s very early days. We’ve only been shooting for a month [and] we presented an entire, huge, scene with Yondu and Rocket and Baby Groot, and then we also presented a special glimpse, just for San Diego Comic-Con, a teaser trailer of sorts. And the visual effects are not finished.”

“The truth is, the Comic-Con footage, which — we trended last night, ‘baby Groot’ trended last night, ‘Guardians’ trended last night, we did extremely well just by people spreading the word — but it’s not something that I, nor Marvel, are comfortable with being out there and standing up to repeated viewings because the visual effects just aren’t finished.”

Twitter Talk

Gunn further took to Twitter to speak out about the possibility of footage leaks making their way on the internet via cell phones and other smaller recording devices:

I cannot wait to get a glimpse of the footage of the Rocket, baby root, Fondu scene. It sounded great. We will just have to wait until Marvel makes their big release.
