For a while now, there have been rumors of a long-awaited sequel to Zombieland. That is really about all the details that we have gotten since the first film hit theaters. We know that the film has been in production for a while, but with no other updates, the status of the film was up in the air. Rest assured, Zombieland 2 is coming, its all about timing and budget.
Paul Wernick (Deadpool) gave an update to Zombieland 2 in a recent interview with Comicbook.com, and not talking about Deadpool 2, amazingly:
“It is [in active development],” Wernick said. “We’re trying to get it going. All of our cast have read the script and love it. Reuben [Fleischer] is signed on. It’s just a matter of making our cast deals and making it for a budget number. All the cast have become superstars now so, we made Zombieland with 20 million, so it’s trying to fit that financial model into the sequel model so it makes sense for the studio and being able to pay the actors what they now get paid and deserve to paid.”
“We see Tom Rothman pretty frequently now and we’re pestering that dude. He’s like, ‘Please, enough with the Zombieland talk!’ We’re pestering him the way we pestered Fox on Deadpool. We’re not letting it go. We really want to see Zombieland 2.”
More updates are sure to come sooner than later. CinemaCon takes place on March 27, and Sony Pictures has the first presentation of the event. A sequel to the 2009 smash hit will be more than welcomed by fans of the cult hit. Who doesn’t love a good zombie movie.
There is no current release date for Zombieland 2.
Zombieland stars Woody Harrelson, Jessie Eisenberg, Amber Heard, Emma Stone, and . There is no word yet who will return for the sequel.
