One of the most-anticipated films of 2017, Wonder Woman looks to change the trend of sub-par DC Cinematic movies. The film’s star, Gal Gadot talked with Variety about her role as the Amazonian Wonder Woman. It is a role that will span the course of 3 films, all of which we have already glimpsed footage from this year.
Her first appearance as Diana was in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Next year we will see her star in the standalone Wonder Woman movie. Her third time wielding the golden rope will be in the ultimate DC team up movie, Justice League. Gadot took a moment to talk about the Patty Jenkins-led WW standalone film, stating that simplicity was the key thing Jenkins contributed to the film:
“For her it was very important to not just portray her as a goddess, but to tell a very simple story of someone who believes in good and believes that people should be happy and lead safe, happy lives. We cared a lot about simplifying Wonder Woman’s agenda, because it is simple. It was her heart that we cared about, not her being this warrior. When you tell a story from the heart, all of us can relate, because all of us want to live in a safe, quiet, and peaceful world… She knew exactly how she wanted to tell her story. She knew exactly what she wanted to get. She’s brilliant and smart and so passionate.”
With the recent comments made by Wonder Woman writer Greg Rucka believes about Diana is bisexual, Gadot says that Diana’s sexual preference is not something entertained in the film:
“It’s not something we’ve explored. It never came to the table, but when you talk theoretically about all the women on Themyscira and how many years she was there, then what he said makes sense. In this movie she does not experience any bisexual relationships. But it’s not about that. She’s a woman who loves people for who they are. She can be bisexual. She loves people for their hearts.”
Wonder Woman will hit theaters next Summer, followed by Justice League a few month’s latter. Justice League is currently wrapping up production in Iceland.
