A Faithful Translation of Link and Zelda

We haven’t seen Link carrying his famous Master Sword yet.

One of the most striking photos places both characters in a sweeping, sunlit meadow, evoking the lush, open landscapes that define the world of Hyrule. Filming is taking place in New Zealand. The production is aiming for a naturalistic, cinematic backdrop to ground its fantasy setting.

Production Underway

With filming now in progress, creator Shigeru Miyamoto shared the images with fans and emphasized that development is moving smoothly. He expressed gratitude for ongoing fan support and encouraged patience as the project continues through its lengthy production schedule.

The Legend of Zelda is directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner trilogy, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes). Ball has previously indicated that the adaptation aims for a blend of wonder and emotional storytelling, drawing inspiration from classic fantasy cinema. The movie’s currently slated for a May 7, 2027, theatrical release.

The blending of modern and classic Zelda influences suggests the filmmakers are striving for a version of Hyrule that respects the games while carving out its own cinematic identity.
