Marvel Studios has finally released the first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. The trailer offers the clearest look yet at Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Doctor Doom. However, Marvel wisely keeps the villain’s complete plan hidden.
Instead, the trailer focuses on the enormous threat facing several different superhero teams. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor opens the footage by addressing the newly assembled Avengers. He urges them to honor the heroes who sacrificed everything before them. That speech immediately establishes a darker tone than many recent Marvel movies.

However, this Avengers team looks very different from the original lineup. Anthony Mackie returns as Sam Wilson, who now carries the Captain America mantle. Paul Rudd also appears as Ant-Man, while Letitia Wright returns as Shuri. Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova brings the New Avengers into the fight alongside Earth’s established heroes.
Marvel also brings the Fantastic Four into the larger MCU story. Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards appears beside Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm. Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach return as Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm. Their involvement suggests Doctor Doom’s arrival connects directly to their universe. That relationship could become the movie’s emotional foundation.
Doom’s confrontation with Thor provides the trailer’s biggest action sequence. The two powerful characters collide during a brief but brutal battle. Doom seemingly controls the encounter despite Thor’s immense strength. That moment immediately establishes him as something more dangerous than another armored villain.
Downey gives Doom a slower and more intimidating voice than Tony Stark ever used. The performance creates distance between the two characters despite their shared face. Marvel has not revealed why Doom resembles Tony Stark. The trailer suggests that mystery will carry significant emotional weight.
Several heroes knew Stark personally and still mourn his death. Fighting someone with his face could fracture the new alliance. It could also give Doom a psychological advantage over heroes who remember Tony as their friend.
The returning X-Men add another layer to the expanding multiverse story. Patrick Stewart returns as Charles Xavier, while Ian McKellen once again plays Magneto. James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming and Kelsey Grammer also reprise their roles. Channing Tatum returns as Gambit following his appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine.
The trailer places these characters beside the Avengers and Fantastic Four. Marvel appears ready to collide several cinematic universes before Avengers: Secret Wars. However, the studio still hides how these separate teams meet or why they join the conflict.
The trailer’s biggest surprise arrives during its final moments. Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers and stands before a stunned Thor. The scene confirms Steve will play more than a nostalgic background role. Marvel previously teased his return without explaining how he reenters the story.
His appearance now raises more questions about the multiverse. This Steve could be the original retired Captain America. He could also come from another reality threatened by Doom. Either answer could reshape the emotional stakes surrounding the Avengers.
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo return after guiding Infinity War and Endgame. Their influence becomes clear throughout the trailer’s dramatic scale and serious tone. The footage promises enormous battles, unexpected reunions and difficult choices. Yet its strongest moments feature familiar heroes confronting an uncertain future.
Marvel must balance dozens of characters without losing that emotional focus. The studio successfully accomplished that challenge with Infinity War. However, Avengers: Doomsday now faces even greater expectations after several uneven years for the MCU.
The trailer does not explain Doom’s complete plan or reveal every returning hero. However, it provides enough spectacle to restart excitement around Marvel’s biggest franchise. More importantly, it finally shows audiences what kind of threat Doctor Doom represents.
