The Doctor regenerating into a woman wasn’t enough for the BBC. It appears like Doctor Who will get a full overhaul before we see any new episodes featuring Jodie Whittaker (Attack the Block). The show also has a new frontrunner, Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch) and new writers aiming for a September season launch.
Last week, visual effects film Double Negative (Interstellar, Blade Runner 2049, Ex Machina) signed on to handle the visual effects this season. Double Negative most recently worked on Netflix’s Altered Carbon, and replace Milk VFX who have handled VFX duties on the series since its return in 2005. The new visuals are one of the steps that the studio is using to give the show a more cinematic feel. The BBC also will use Cooke and Angenieux anamorphic lenses (used on Moonlight and Hacksaw Ridge).
According to a recent report by Syfy, composer Murray Gold will not return for the new season as well. Murray’s been with the series since 2005. Murray confirmed his departure at Gallifrey Con, where he received a massive standing ovation for his musical work on Doctor Who. A replacement has not been named as of the time of this article.
The BBC also released the new title for the show. You can see it below:
Doctor Who returns bigger and better this September.
The Doctor is a regenerating alien Time Lord: an eccentric, highly-intelligent scientist from a distant planet. He/she travels through time and space in the TARDIS, a curious device, larger on the inside than on the outside, which was designed to change its appearance to suit its surroundings. With each regeneration comes a new face, new friends, and new adventures. The Doctor has regenerate into a woman for the first time ever. This is sure to mix things up a bit.
