‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Will Ditch the Hulk & Black Widow Romance Story

If there is one big thing wrong with Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, it would have to be the subtle romance between The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson). The scene felt off, and the romance came out of left field. It appears that this romance will either be abandoned in Avengers: Infinity War, or ignored all-together.

The first Avengers film never even hinted at any kind of possibility of romance between Widow and Hulk. If anything the first film set-up a romance between Widow and Hawkeye. The romance was cut-short when The Hulk disappeared in a Quintet at the end of Age of Ultron. It appears that this romance will be finished when the two reunite in Avengers: Infinity War. According to a recent interview with Johansson on Bravo TV’s Inside the Actor’s Studio, the on-screen relationship mirrored her real-life romance, Johansson filed for divorce in March:

“I just finished Avengers: Infinity War. My character has this ongoing relationship with Mark Ruffalo’s character. I had such devastation that day, I don’t know why. I was so devastated. It was something about this character that Mark plays, and this is something that should feel so solid and then suddenly doesn’t or there’s… and then it reminded me of so much of the things going on in my own life at the time…”

Avengers: Infinity War should wrap up production shortly, with filming on the fourth overlapping with Infinity War.

“The Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle. But now a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment. The fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.”

Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018.
