According to Deadline:

“Affleck worked hard on The Batman story, but knew he wasn’t the right one for this particular version. A search is underway for a new Dark Knight.”

Affleck confirms the news via his Twitter account an hour ago:

Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life. https://t.co/GNgyJroMIO— Ben Affleck (@BenAffleck) January 31, 2019

After the tweet went live, The Hollywood Reporter reached out and confirmed that this announcement is Affleck saying goodbye to the role of Batman.

So, what does this mean for the role moving forward? The studio continues revamp the DCEU in order to appeal to the fans. The biggest critique of Bat-Fleck was his age.

Why would Warner Bros. think it was a good idea to bring the character in at such an old age, essentially killing the Batman cash train? This is a good move, although Affleck was good as The Dark Knight.

The hope is that Matt Reeves will add more mystery to the character, and capitalize on the things that made Affleck’s Batman great. A younger version will allow the audience to grow with the character, living through his mistakes and successes.

This is an interesting turn for DC and Warner Bros. Does this mean that the rest of the Justice League could be next?
