Resident Evil is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Who would have thought it’s been 25 years since Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton and Albert Wesker went to the Spencer Mansion? Since then, the cast of characters has only grown.
Resident Evil 2 and 3 were even remade in the past few years.
To celebrate the anniversary Capcom released Resident Evil Village. It’s the 8th main entry in the series. Although, that isn’t counting the Revelations games, among others. Village sees Ethan Winters return from Resident Evil Biohazard.
Last time he was fighting to save his wife, Mia. This time, Ethan fights to save his daughter, Rose.
Village quickly became a favorite of most Resident Evil fans, with some of the antagonists becoming icons. One such antagonist is Lady Dimitrescu, voiced by the brilliant Maggie Robertson. While most fans love her for her great height, she’s also ferocious yet vulnerable when it comes to her daughters.
There’s a chance fans might get to play as her soon. However, not as soon as they might hope.
Re: Verse is an online battle royale where players control characters from the series’ legacy. This includes heroes like Jill Valentine to villains such as Jack Baker. Last month’s E3 saw Capcom confirming the game’s release this month.
Unfortunately, that’s no longer the case. Taking to Twitter, Capcom announced the delay of the online game. In their statement, Capcom explains:
The previously announced July 2021 launch of Resident Evil Re:Verse is being moved to 2022 so that the team can continue working to deliver a smooth gameplay experience. We will share updated launch details at a later time. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
I don’t think anyone can fault the studio for making sure they get it right. Especially after Marvel’s Avengers and Cyberpunk 2077 releasing with horrible bugs and glitches.
Village and Re: Verse aren’t the only things coming this year for the anniversary. An animated series, Infinite Darkness, is streaming on Netflix starring Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy.
Stephanie Panisello and Nick Apostolides return to voice the characters from the Resident Evil 2 Remake.
A new live-action movie is also coming, which adapts the first two games. Thankfully, this one is more in line with the game series and doesn’t feature an original character in the lead role.
Resident Evil Welcome to Raccoon City releases 3rd December 2021.
