Little to no information has reached the surface regarding Marvel’s secret Captain Marvel project, except the casting of Brie Larson. Rumors are speculating that the film could set up the next big Marvel story arc that would focus on the Secret Wars storyline from the comics. The screenwriter for Captain Marvel reveals what the film’s tone could be like.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cpt. Marvel screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet says that she wrote a comedic tone for Carol Danvers in the script:
Captain Marvel has a very funny voice, and it’s more of an action-comedy, more like what we were talking about doing in the first draft I wrote for Tomb Raider…. [but] that tone survived in CM. I love funny female characters, so as Tomb Raider got more serious, I got even more committed to the idea of Captain Marvel being hilarious.
Does this mean that CM will end up being a comedy? Not likely. It appears that in the aftermath of Thor: Ragnarok, that marvel is allowing more comedic films into their library. Either that, or the studio is open to different directions moving forward after Avengers 4.
In the comics, Carol Danvers is an Air Force pilot who is in a terrible accident with an alien, which causes her DNA to fuse with the E.T. This gave Danvers superhuman strength and the ability to fly.
