CBS announced Wednesday that it is renewing much of its current scripted and unscripted fare for the 2020-2021 season, though four shows are being given the chop. The network cancelled “Man With a Plan” after four seasons, while “Carol’s Second Act,” “Broke” and “Tommy” after just one each.
CBS announced that they’re renewing the majority of its scripted and unscripted shows for the 2020-21 season. Unfortunately, four shows aren’t making the cut.
Man with a Plan gets the axe after four seasons, while Tommy, Broke, and Carol’s Second Act went down after just one season. The cancellation news comes on the heels of a huge bill of renewals.
The shows that got the green light are:
48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, All Rise, Blue Bloods, Bob Hearts Abishola, Bull, Evil, FBI, FBI: Most Wanted, MacGyver, Magnum P.I., Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Neighborhood, SWAT, SEAL Team, Survivor, Undercover Boss, The Unicorn, and Young Sheldon.
Most of the NCIS casts signed new contracts to return to the franchise after this season.
CBS wasn’t the only station cancelling projects today. History Channel also nixed two great shows. The Tom Cullen-led, medieval drama Knightfall and Project Blue Book also received walking papers today.
Both shows just wrapped up season two, and History Channel decided not to move forward with a third season.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the television landscape could look incredibly different moving forward.
With the networks shutdown, shows will either have to rush out new seasons in a shorter time frame or we could see a slight delay in premier dates.
At the present, no premier date setbacks have happened. With the predictability of state mandates and timelines for reopening, this could quickly become a problem area for the networks.
