One of the biggest topics of discussing in the walk-up to Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 is what characters will still be alive in the MCU. Most of the actors and actresses we love in the MCU are not signed to contracts beyond the fourth Avengers film. Chris Evan took a moment to talk about his MCU future after Avengers 4, and it appears the actor is done with the role.

In a recent interview with the New York TimesChris Evans spoke about his career and his future debut on Broadway. He went on to reinforce that his previous statements about being done in the MCU after Avengers 4 happens and his contract runs out. According to Reggie Ugwu, Evans says:

Last year, he filmed back-to-back the final two Marvel movies for which he is under contract — “Avengers: Infinity War,” due in April, and a sequel planned for next year. For now, he has no plans to return to the franchise (“You want to get off the train before they push you off,” he said), and expects that planned reshoots in the fall will mark the end of his tenure in the familiar red, white and blue super suit.

Although this is a sad moment for fans of the First Avenger, the comics might have an answer for this dilemma. There have been a number of characters who picked up Cap’s shield in the Marvel Comics universe. Two prominent characters in the MCU are also set to take over the role of Cap, if Evans’ departure is imminent. Sam Wilson (The Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier) both took on the role of Captain America in the comic universe, so it would not be a huge shock to see Marvel go this direction.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27, and Avengers 4 hits May 3, 2019.
