One bright surprise this summer was the new life breathed into Taika Wapiti’s Thor: Ragnarok. The God of Thunder has had two films, which both received less-than-amazing reviews. With Ragnarok, actor Chris Hemsworth was allowed to bring more humor to the role, which made Thor a hot commodity for movie-goers this summer. It easily became one of the best Marvel films to date.
With the success of Thor: Ragnarok, and just having wrapped shooting his parts for Avengers Infinity War and Avengers 4, Hemsworth seems excited for the future of the character. The only bad thing is that Hemsworth’s contract is up with Marvel. Does this mean that Hemsworth will sign another contract in the near future? In a recent interview with IGN, Hemsworth states that he has a “renewed sense of excitement and enthusiasm” for the future of Thor, despite fulfilling his contract:
I’ve just, literally two days ago, finished Avengers 4 and that’s my contract – my preexisting contract is done now, so it’s kind of like, ‘Wow, that’s it.’ Two or three films ago I was like, ‘Okay, a couple more.’ I was enjoying it but I was like… I felt a little restricted. And after this last experience with Taika, and actually these last two Avengers, I feel like we’ve reinvented the character a number of times – even in these next two, he evolves again, and you don’t get that opportunity often in a franchise. So I definitely feel a renewed sense of excitement and enthusiasm, and more so than ever, I think.
Could we see Hemsworth return to Marvel with a new contract? That is uncertain at the present time, but Marvel fans agree that he should be back. Especially in the wake of the success fo Ragnarok. Does this mean that Marvel could potentially recast the role of Thor? There really are a lot of questions that remain. We will have to see exactly how big of a shakeup there will be after Avengers 4 hits theaters.
