Sonic the Hedgehog is a beloved character from video games and animation. Now, the character is making the leap into live-action. Its first trailer was controversial due to the design of Sonic.
Rather than making the character look like its original counterpart, the version in the first trailer looked nothing like him.
The Director and the studio listened to fans. Moving the release date to February 2020 they changed the design of Sonic and you can see how he looks in the latest trailer below:
The new design is more in line with how the original Sonic looks. Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation) provides the voice of the speedy hedgehog. It seems Sonic will be difficult to contain, and that proves a problem for James Marsden’s (X-Men) Tom.
This brings the Government to his door, along with the villainous Doctor Robotnik. It seems like the filmmakers traveled back in time as Jim Carrey is playing the character.
His moments in the trailer show the over-the-top hammy comedy Jim Carrey is known for. It’s been a while since audiences have seen that version of him and it only adds to the excitement.
Paramount has also released a poster for the movie:
It seems Sonic is also a fan of another speedster. The trailer shows him speedreading multiple comic books of The Flash. He’s also content with playing by himself, whether that’s table tennis or baseball.
Looking at the trailer there’s a chance Sonic the Hedgehog might actually be a really fun movie that does justice to the character.
Sonic the Hedgehog releases in theatres, February 14, 2020.
